Claims vary in size from damage to a pair of spectacles - which took just 40 seconds to report and settle - to a fire-damaged factory of over £1 million, which took longer to settle and required greater input and assistance.
Our professional expertise helps us to challenge claims that have been turned down by a loss adjuster, for example...
- A balcony repair was repudiated on the grounds of wear and tear but the decision was overturned after we proved accidental damage was the cause and that the policy wording did not require the specific cause of the damage to be identified.
- A claim for a cesspit, repudiated on similar grounds, was paid for by insurers after we proved that weather played the major part in the damage and that it had a longer lifespan than suggested by the loss adjuster.
- A commercial client, facing a bill for over £30,000 from a previous employee, could not identify his insurer from 50 years previously. After extensive investigation, we found the insurer. We also managed to have the claim against our client rejected by showing that the claimant had suffered hearing loss because of old age and not his occupation.
On a number of occasions we have helped prepare business interruption claims which have resulted in our client achieving a higher settlement than the loss adjuster had suggested, by taking into account trends in the business. For this reason, if a loss adjuster is appointed on a claim, we will always endeavour to accompany the client to ensure that their interests are protected and the best possible settlement is achieved.
